WEEK 15 (28.11.2022-30.11.2022) Wednesday, November 30, 2022

The last week for our practical day! 😍 I do not have class on Monday since it is a holiday after the new prime minister's election. Therefore the lesson proceeded on Tuesday which was the day I had my observation with Madam Azwin. Before the observation day, I did some research on how to manage the class, how to start the lesson with an amazing set induction, and how to carry out the class activities within the time limit. All of these are also with the help of my mentor and other English teachers. Some of the links that I visited are as below:

4.

For the last week, I entered another unit from the student's book which is Unit 7: Helping out. My objective for this week is to expose my pupils to this new topic. The objectives are to write down possessive pronoun sentences by matching the pronouns with the correct object and answer the worksheet based on possessive pronouns given by the teacher within the time limit.

On the day of observation, I did a sing-along as my set induction. The song that I started with is a song that I created on my own. This song is meant to help the pupils to have the gist idea of what they are going to learn on that day. That morning, my pupils are able to sing the song together with me and whenever asked about their opinion on what might be the topic for that day, my pupils manage to answer it since they already understand the song.

Then as for the lesson, my pupils listen to my explanation about the topic. This topic is about possessive nouns and luckily some of the pupils are already aware of this topic since they have used it in their daily conversation before. I had done some research on how to teach this topic. Mainly, I would use the same explanation from the Youtube videos that I watched but I would also improvise the topic by simplifying the explanation for my pupils.

2.

The class activity was group work which was by asking pupils to answer questions based on the text given. 4 out of 6 groups managed to complete the task with minimal help from the teacher. However, I received a comment from Madam Azwin which is to replace the activity with the second one instead of doing this activity first since it is quite difficult for them. These activities however were acceptable.

Strength - The class becomes more interactive with one another.  Pupils are able to complete group tasks now since they are already aware of the time limit.

Weakness - The activity's order is not suitable, since activity 2 should be done first.

Opportunity - Pupils are now able to answer long questions and tricky questions. Pupils are now leveling up their proficiency.

Threat - This first activity is only going to identify certain pupils' abilities since I notice that some pupils are not cooperating.

On the 30th there was no lesson since there was a Program Silang Budaya.

Co-curricular activity

The dance team that trained by me and Safiah did the performance for today.

A farewell party was organized by the school for us.

WEEK 14 (21.11.2022-25.11.2022) Friday, November 25, 2022

This week is the second last week! There are still some other tasks to settle at school. Despite the busyness of the week, I still manage to complete the lesson plan for this week. This week, I decided to complete unit 6.  Therefore, there are some creative lesson that we did. Some lesson does not need any worksheet while some do.

For this week, I did some research on past exam questions and it turns out that there are so many HOTS questions that can be found in their work book. Then, the lesson that I teach must still relate with the activity I did in class.

There are some link that my mentor suggested for me to have a quick look at before preparing my lesson plan. These videos helped me to gather idea for me to do in the upcoming classes with my students. However, some of them are still unsuaitable for my pupils since they are at a certain proficiency level.

1.

Looking back from the past weeks, I must say that there are so many improvements from my pupils. They are excited for every classes. The first day of the week, I decided to let them create a poster about "Road Safety" and in this lesson, pupils need to do this task individually based on their understanding alone.

The poster activity was meant to involve some pupils who could not read to be more particiipative in class. Pupils manage to complete the task within the time limit. As for the topic that involves in this activity is imperative nouns. Pupils use variety of imperative nouns in the poster.

Then, we did some worksheeet about prepositions in the next day. This worksheet is given again to pupils because they need regular checks on their understanding. Pupils are confused at first but then again after reminding them again about the topic, they can recall once again. This technique is to help pupils remember and refresh their memories.

The worksheet somehow was completed by 35/39 pupils in the class. These pupils somehow receive guidance from teacher and friends to complete the task. Pupils that complete without any help is only 23 pupils. However, it is also a good sign since it cover majority of the pupils in the class.

Then on the following day, I decided to ask my pupils to create sentences using the simple present tense. This is also an individual task which was given to the pupils to complete within the time limit. This task is given to pupils so that pupils are more open to HOTS questions. However 36/39 manages to complete the task with minimal guidance.

Lastlly, I proceeded to have a quiz on the overall topic that I teach on the last day of the week. Whenever I do the quiz, pupils are more attentive because they do feel a sense of competition with the other friends. These quiz are made verbally to test their listening and speaking skills. Some pupils know the answer but tend to be quiet since they are shy and scared. However this quiz has made these pupils more encourage to give their answers since they are prizes for winners.

Stregtht - Pupils are getting better at completing the task individually. Less dependent on friends.

Weakness - The time was not suffiecient since there were so many program involving the class.

Oppurtunity - They are now able to identify the use of prepositions,  imperative forms and other big topic under this unit. They can manage to answer HOTS questions on work book.

Threat- There are some pupils who are not capable of doing individual task and tend to distrub others.

Extra co-curricullar activity

We manage to complete the Bahasa Inggeris project about independence day.

Helped for academic day the school.

WEEK 13 (14.11.2022-18.11.2022) Friday, November 18, 2022

This week is the second last week before entering the next topic. Since I am still teaching my pupils the sixth topic, I must provide amazing activities to make sure that my pupils are not bored. My lesson is revolving around the present simple tense. In this lesson, I tried the template provided by a teacher from Telegram. After researching the material, I do think that it is suitable for my student's level. Therefore, this activity will be a group activity.

Before coming out with this idea I did some research on how to teach this topic. There are some teachers online that teach easy ways to make the pupil's understanding easier. There were also sites that I visited in order for me to have a better understanding of this topic.

The sites are:

1. https://www.gingersoftware.com/content/grammar-rules/the-present-simple-tense/

2. https://www.thesaurus.com/e/grammar/simple-present-tense/

3.

Then, we did some revisions for the previous topic. This week we tried to cover some other previous topics and learn the simple present tense. The reason why we had revision is that some of the students are still having a hard time completing their workbook exercises.

Pupils also learn how to use the i-think map correctly. This is because I gave notes by using tree maps, circle maps, and bubble maps. This method is efficient for pupils to understand the topics better. There are some examples given to help them memorize the technique.

Strength - The materials given to pupils this week are fully utilized. The materials are more fun and interactive for the pupils.

Weakness - The time for a certain activity is not enough. Some pupils take some time to complete the task.

Opportunity - All the objectives are fulfilled. Therefore, we can move to another topic for the next week.

Threat - The materials given is not individually focused. It can be hard for me to detect my pupils' abilities.

Co-curricular activity

This week, we manage to do the Hari Kanak Kanak and we did the performance which is dancing Bollywood dance.

WEEK 12 (7.11.2022-11.11.2022) Friday, November 11, 2022

In this week's lesson, I decided to teach my pupils the topic gerunds (Verb+ ing). This week my main activity is to make sure my pupils are able to read out loud a text with gerunds while identifying the gerunds used in the text and answer a worksheet given by the teacher within 10 minutes on how to change the verbs to gerunds.

Therefore, there are some activities that were done to make sure that the lesson is more fun and interactive. The first activity is to answer the worksheet given by the teacher. The worksheet is definitely a good worksheet since it covers all levels. Then, the second activity is asking my pupil to read a text from the student's book and underline the gerunds used.

While preparing the lesson plans for this week, I manage to detect the pupil's weakness which is to create a sentence. Therefore, this week I decided to make sure that the pupils start to create more sentences to help improve their ability to write sentences based on the correct topics.

Some of the sites that I visited to complete the lesson plans are;

1. https://www.ef.com/wwen/english-resources/english-grammar/gerund/

2. https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/general_writing/mechanics/gerunds_participles_and_infinitives/index.html

3.

This week, I was busy revising some with the pupils some topics since they will be sitting for the exam. Therefore, I had spend some time revising some old topics from the student's book and workbook. \

This week, we also manage to cover some topics such as identifying vehicles on the street. Pupils are told to list down vehicles that they know and draw the vehicle. After drawing the vehicle, pupils are told to talk about the vehicle in front of the class. This activity manages to make the pupils more interactive with their peers especially when they are talking about their interests.

Strength - Time is sufficient enough to cover topics for this week. Have extra time to study previous topics from the student's book and workbook.

Weakness - A lot of pupils are absent since they are affected by the covid-19.

Opportunity - Pupils are more attentive when it comes to the lesson. Most pupils need a challenging question to strengthen their knowledge.

Threat - Pupils who have a minimal level of vocabulary find it hard to understand the topic and need the teacher's guidance most of the time.

Co-curricular activity

We pick up some tasks that are left behind which is training students for choir and training the pupils to dance for Hari Silang Budaya and we managed to complete some of the tasks given.

WEEK 11 (31.10.2022-4.11.2022) Friday, November 4, 2022

This week, I focused on teaching the pupils how to read and write the clock. This week, my objective is to make sure that the pupils understand and know how to read the clock. Therefore, I drew a huge clock in front of the class and ask my pupils to draw an arrow each time that I asked them to.

However in order to make sure they understand well, I played audio which is a song for the pupils to listen to. This is because my pupils are more prone to understand the topic better if they are given guidance, especially a fun one.

This week, I was also told by my mentor to do some other revisions for the other previous topics. Therefore, pupils are told to complete the exercises from their workbooks.

Before completing the lesson plan I managed to do some research on the topic that I want to teach.

1. https://www.teachingtime.co.uk/

2. https://www.wikihow.com/Teach-Kids-to-Tell-Time

Some of the worksheets given are as below:

Strength - Pupils are able to understand the topic well since they are already exposed to this topic in other subjects. The lesson is fun and efficient.

Weakness - The lesson could be more fun if I am able to create a simple watch to give to the pupils. However, due to the lack of time I am not able to do that.

Opportunity - Pupils understood the topic fast therefore I am able to do some revision for the previous topics.

Threat - There were so many absentees that week that make the process of learning a little bit hard.

WEEK 10 (24.10.2022-28.10.2022) Friday, October 28, 2022

This week is the week where I teach time under unit 6: Getting around. In this unit, pupils are expected to understand and be able to identify the use of prepositions. In this unit, I have managed to make pupils enhance their understanding by asking some pupils to demonstrate the prepositions by asking random pupils to write the answer on the whiteboard.

This is because based on an article, it is good to do this activity since pupils will be able to build up confidence and also stimulate them to use the word in the correct sentences.

However, since my class is still not able to determine the use of correct prepositions, it is my duty to make sure that the class manages to use the correct preposition in their sentences.

The highlight of the week is when my pupils create a birthday card party. In the card, I asked them to write a simple invitation to their friends by giving them details about the birthday party. Each pupil must use the prepositions that they learn in order for them to create a letter.

Therefore, I also showed them some samples from the internet. Such as the picture below:

By showing them the example, pupils manage to create the invitation letter. In creating this week's lesson plan, I had come to the conclusion that many of my pupils are still confused with the use of prepositions therefore I decided to focus on the use of prepositions for the whole week.

Some of the websites that I use as references for my lesson plan are:

1.  https://www.fluentu.com/blog/educator-english/teaching-prepositions-esl/
2. https://www.englishclub.com/efl/tefl-articles/skills/tips-for-teaching-prepositions/
3. https://emile-education.com/prepositions-2/

One of my pupils creation of a birthday party letter such as below:

Pupils were doing the task given by me which is to write down answers on the whiteboard.

Strength - Pupils are more focused when they are told to complete the task individually in front of friends, therefore, I am able to detect the capability of each pupil.

Weakness - Some timid pupils find it hard to complete the task even though they know the correct answer to my questions. Secondly, my lesson plan is only based on prepositions this week. I believe some pupils are bored with it.

Opportunity - Pupils are able to complete the task individually without referring to other friends which shows how dependent pupils are. The lesson is a way to make sure pupils are more confident with their understanding.

Threat - Some timid pupils take time to settle in with the environment. Therefore, it is hard to persuade them to participate in classes.

Co-curricular activity:

Painting the walls for the MPAJ competition. We spend the whole week completing this task.

WEEK 9 (17.10.2022-21.10.2022) Friday, October 21, 2022

This week, I manage to complete the fifth unit and I am entering the sixth unit which is Unit 6: Getting around. On Monday, I was still in the fifth unit and I was covering the topic some and any. As for the last topic, I gave some worksheets and the highlight for the topic is to come out with a group discussion to write questions. Pupils manage to complete the task within the time limit.

Then, the following day I did the individual task which is to create a "Eat healthy" poster by using the some and any sentences. By doing so I believe that the class has become more cheerful since pupils are able to use their creativity.

There are also some youtube videos and materials that I used in order to make sure the pupils can fully understand. Then, we enter the next unit. The first thing that I teach is prepositions. The prepositions topic is a little bit tricky however I manage to give my pupils notes in order for the pupils to understand the topic.

Strength - The class mastered the use of vocabulary in order to identify grammar use. The class time is also sufficient since the pupils manage to achieve the objectives.

Weakness - Some pupils get distracted easily since it is group work. The distraction can be hard because other pupils may or may not be able to pick up the lesson.

Opportunity - Nearly achieve 96% of pupils' participation. Pupils can now answer more high questions for the topic.

Threat - Some pupils get distracted easily. Therefore it can be hard for the pupils to understand the lesson fully.

Co-curricular activity

During this week, the co-curricular activity is meant for competition between pupils to make a sandwich. I was appointed to assist the pupils.
