WEEK 10 (24.10.2022-28.10.2022) Friday, October 28, 2022

This week is the week where I teach time under unit 6: Getting around. In this unit, pupils are expected to understand and be able to identify the use of prepositions. In this unit, I have managed to make pupils enhance their understanding by asking some pupils to demonstrate the prepositions by asking random pupils to write the answer on the whiteboard.

This is because based on an article, it is good to do this activity since pupils will be able to build up confidence and also stimulate them to use the word in the correct sentences.

However, since my class is still not able to determine the use of correct prepositions, it is my duty to make sure that the class manages to use the correct preposition in their sentences.

The highlight of the week is when my pupils create a birthday card party. In the card, I asked them to write a simple invitation to their friends by giving them details about the birthday party. Each pupil must use the prepositions that they learn in order for them to create a letter.

Therefore, I also showed them some samples from the internet. Such as the picture below:

By showing them the example, pupils manage to create the invitation letter. In creating this week's lesson plan, I had come to the conclusion that many of my pupils are still confused with the use of prepositions therefore I decided to focus on the use of prepositions for the whole week.

Some of the websites that I use as references for my lesson plan are:

1.  https://www.fluentu.com/blog/educator-english/teaching-prepositions-esl/
2. https://www.englishclub.com/efl/tefl-articles/skills/tips-for-teaching-prepositions/
3. https://emile-education.com/prepositions-2/

One of my pupils creation of a birthday party letter such as below:

Pupils were doing the task given by me which is to write down answers on the whiteboard.

Strength - Pupils are more focused when they are told to complete the task individually in front of friends, therefore, I am able to detect the capability of each pupil.

Weakness - Some timid pupils find it hard to complete the task even though they know the correct answer to my questions. Secondly, my lesson plan is only based on prepositions this week. I believe some pupils are bored with it.

Opportunity - Pupils are able to complete the task individually without referring to other friends which shows how dependent pupils are. The lesson is a way to make sure pupils are more confident with their understanding.

Threat - Some timid pupils take time to settle in with the environment. Therefore, it is hard to persuade them to participate in classes.

Co-curricular activity:

Painting the walls for the MPAJ competition. We spend the whole week completing this task.

WEEK 9 (17.10.2022-21.10.2022) Friday, October 21, 2022

This week, I manage to complete the fifth unit and I am entering the sixth unit which is Unit 6: Getting around. On Monday, I was still in the fifth unit and I was covering the topic some and any. As for the last topic, I gave some worksheets and the highlight for the topic is to come out with a group discussion to write questions. Pupils manage to complete the task within the time limit.

Then, the following day I did the individual task which is to create a "Eat healthy" poster by using the some and any sentences. By doing so I believe that the class has become more cheerful since pupils are able to use their creativity.

There are also some youtube videos and materials that I used in order to make sure the pupils can fully understand. Then, we enter the next unit. The first thing that I teach is prepositions. The prepositions topic is a little bit tricky however I manage to give my pupils notes in order for the pupils to understand the topic.

Strength - The class mastered the use of vocabulary in order to identify grammar use. The class time is also sufficient since the pupils manage to achieve the objectives.

Weakness - Some pupils get distracted easily since it is group work. The distraction can be hard because other pupils may or may not be able to pick up the lesson.

Opportunity - Nearly achieve 96% of pupils' participation. Pupils can now answer more high questions for the topic.

Threat - Some pupils get distracted easily. Therefore it can be hard for the pupils to understand the lesson fully.

Co-curricular activity

During this week, the co-curricular activity is meant for competition between pupils to make a sandwich. I was appointed to assist the pupils.

WEEK 8 (10.10.2022-14.10.2022) Friday, October 14, 2022

This week I cover the same unit which is unit 5: Eating right. I decided to cover the topic of uncountable and countable nouns. In this topic, I realized that my students lack vocabulary. Therefore could be the reason why they find it difficult to understand the topic. I had manage to overcome this issue in the topic area. The vocabulary that I exposed to my pupils is related to the topic.

The first thing I do is by asking my pupils to list down everything they know that relates to kitchen utensils. By doing so, pupils will be able to recognize the meaning of each item. Therefore, they will also be able to identify countable and uncountable nouns. I did cover the topic for every skill in order to make sure the pupils understand the topic fully.

I did some research on how to make the class fun. There are so many sites that I visited and some of them are listed such as below:

1. https://eslspeaking.org/countable-and-uncountable-nouns-activities/

2. https://busyteacher.org/22370-count-noncount-nouns-11-fun-games.html

The highlight of the week is to make a kite using countable and uncountable nouns. I invented a game called "Make your kite fly" which is to paste all the countable and uncountable nouns in order to create a kite. 100% of pupils took part in the lesson and make the kite.

There are also some videos from youtube that was played for the pupils in order to make sure the pupils understand the lesson even more.

Strength- The strength of the lesson is that pupils enjoy the lesson because it involves their creativity. They make sure that the lesson was carried out perfectly.

Weakness- Pupils tend to be more active compared to when they are told to do the individual activity. It can lead them to be more dependent on their other friends.

Opportunity- Pupils who have problems with reading are able to participate in the classroom activity because they are able to receive help from friends to complete the task.

Threat- Pupils have to spend some money to buy decorations in order to make sure the activity works perfectly.

Co-curricular activity

This week is the week for the MPAJ competition. I was involved in the performance which is to dance. The video taken was, unfortunately, not able to paste here. Therefore, I will paste a short clip from the after performance.

WEEK 7 (3.10.2022-7.10.2022) Friday, October 7, 2022

This week I decided to focus on the simple present tense. The simple present tense is one of the new topics that the pupils learn in the grammar area. Therefore, I did some research on how to teach the pupils this topic. It can be a little bit tricky compared to teaching other topics because grammar is all about the rules!

There are some sites that I visited to improve my understanding of this topic. Some of them are:

1. https://www.ef.com/wwen/english-resources/english-grammar/simple-present-tense/

2. https://www.englishpage.com/verbpage/simplepresent.html

3.

The lesson plan that I did was mentored by my mentor, Madam Nancy. The lesson plan however does need correction at the beginning. The class activity was too packed which leads to less time to complete them. Therefore, I corrected the mistakes and sent them again to my mentor.

Co-curricular activity

This week we are busy decorating the school. The decoration was meant to improvise the hall's interior. This is meant to help the school to win the competition for MPAJ. The board at the back of the hall needs some improvising.
